A 13 DOCTOR video consultation is an online consultation between a patient and a registered Australian doctor.
13 DOCTOR is offered across the Northern Queensland Primary Heath Network from as far north as Port Douglas and far south as Mackay through to towns including Mareeba, Collinsville, Charters Towers, Hughenden, Richmond and Dysart.
You can help get the best from a 13 Doctor video consultation by:
- speaking clearly so your voice can be picked up by the microphone
- look at the camera so you can achieve good eye contact with the Doctor
- be ready to talk about your medical history and current symptoms/condition
- be willing to ask questions
The same privacy and confidentiality requirements that apply to face-to-face consultations apply to 13 DOCTOR consultations. 13 DOCTOR uses data encryption and fulfils national healthcare security standards.
Every day devices such as a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer can be used for a 13 DOCTOR video consultation.
Doctors are fully qualified and are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as required by the Medical Board of Australia. Consult practices are to the standards developed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine (ACRRM) for medical services.
13 DOCTOR patients can request the doctor send the script to their nursing home/aged care facility or participating pharmacy. All other patients will be asked to download the free Tonic App and choose a pharmacy closest to them. Tonic will send the script to that pharmacy.
13-Doctor is unable to provide referrals at this time. All medication is at the discression of the doctor.
If the patient’s pharmacy of choice is within a Tonic delivery area the medicine will be delivered to their nominated address. Patients outside of the Tonic delivery area can have their medication delivered to their home address using Australia Post. Where possible the medication will be posted the same day.
Patients pay the cost of postage in addition to the cost of medication.
